(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The Walsh softball team dropped both of its conference opening games to Northwood by scores of 6-1 and 10-5 on Friday afternoon. The Cavaliers dropped to 7-14 overall, while the Timberwolves, who were also playing in their GLIAC opener, improved to 12-13.
In the opener, Kendra Moore's home run in the sixth inning gave the Cavs their only run, but Walsh was unable to generate any more offense in a comeback attempt.
In the nightcap, Northwood opened up the offense early as it scored all 10 runs in the opening three frames. Walsh answered with three in the second as Becca Bode singled in Leah Roten and Jenna Head followed up with a two-run home run over the left field fence to score Yasmine Rivera who was pinch running for Bode.
Walsh added another pair in the sixth as Roten doubled to right field to score Annie Woolf who opened the inning with a double. Nikki Newman brought in Roten two batters later on a single through the right side.
Walsh will host Saginaw Valley State tomorrow following the conclusion of a doubleheader between Lake Erie and Northwood. Both Lake Erie and Walsh were scheduled to travel to Michigan this weekend, but inclement weather forced the all games to be played in North Canton.
