(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh was swept by Saginaw Valley State by scores of 19-0 and 1-0 in its twin bill Saturday afternoon at the WU Softball Complex. The Cavaliers are now 7-16 on the season and 0-4 in the GLIAC, while the Cardinals are 15-6 overall and 4-0 in the conference.
After a tough loss in the opening game where the Cardinals jumped out to an early lead, the Cavaliers collected themselves and held the visitors scoreless until the final inning of the nightcap. It was then that the Cardinals' Evy Lobdell singled to center to score Lauren Barchert who reached two batters earlier on an error.
The Cavaliers had a great opportunity to tie the game in the bottom of the frame, but left two runners on the bases when the side was retired.
Olivia Pifer pitched well despite taking the loss. She allowed the one unearned run on four hits and four walks with a pair of strikeouts.
Walsh will return to action a week from today when it hosts Tiffin at 1 p.m.
