(CANTON, Ohio) – The Walsh softball team boosted its win streak to three games with a sweep of rival Malone by scores of 2-1 and 11-0 in five innings on Wednesday afternoon. The Cavaliers are now 11-29 on the season, while the Pioneers dropped to 14-25-1.
In the opening game, a pair of RBI singles gave Walsh all the offense it needed for the win. Kirsten Reed brought in Yasmine Rivera for the first run before Jenna Head scored Leah Roten on a base hit up the middle.
Olivia Pifer proceeded to pitch exceptionally with one run on five hits in the complete game for her sixth win of the year.
The offense proceeded to rock Malone in Game 2 with 11 runs on 10 hits with the aid of five Pioneer errors. Four of those runs came in the opening frame as Rivera, Roten, Annie Woolf, and Head all scored. Roten doubled to center in the next inning to bring in Rivera. Becca Bode then went yard in the third for her first home run of the season to make the score 6-0.
The Cavaliers pushed over the mercy rule mark with five runs in the fifth. A bases-loaded walk by Nikki Newman brought in Reed, a Rivera single scored Rebekah Hoffee, and Roten hit a bases-loaded double to center to score Newman, Abby Reusser, and Rivera.
Ryan Kuula pitched the complete game shutout to improve to 6-9. She scattered four hits and walked one while she struck out three.
The Cavaliers will head on the road to take on Ferris State and Grand Valley State this Saturday and Sunday.
