(NORTH CANTON, OHIO)- Walsh (17-15, 6-6) was swept by Alderson Broaddus (3-23, 2-6) on a breezy evening at the Walsh Softball Complex. Walsh was defeated by scores of 3-0 and 12-8.
The Cavaliers hit the ball hard in Game One but was unable to find the holes. Jessie Rock was responsible for the Cavaliers' two hits. She had two doubles to left field, one in the first and fourth inning. Annie Woolf was the only other Walsh player to reach base with a walk.
Olivia Pifer (11-6) was strong in the circle despite the loss. She threw all seven innings surrendering four hits and struck out for Battlers batters. She struck out four batters on the day.
The Cavaliers did not wait in Game Two to get on the board scoring five runs in the first. Alex Depue led off the game with a single up the middle and was able to move to second on a sacrifice bunt by Abbey Yaugher. A single by Rock allowed Depue to advance to third. Woolf hit a shot to third allowing Depue to score. A sacrifice fly by Brooke Six scored Rock. Hailey Warren singled to right to start the two out rally. Back to back singles by Katie Gray and Yasmine Rivera scored three runs. The Cavaliers had five hits in the first inning.
Walsh was able to put a three spot up in the second. Warren singled to centerfield to score Yaugher who led off the inning with a walk. Olivia Edgell was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Woolf. Gray followed with a bunt single down the first base line to score Six. The Cavaliers were held scoreless the rest of the game.
Shelbi Gregg (2-7) took the loss in the circle. She scattered eight hits over 3.2 innings with three strike outs.
The Cavaliers travel down Route 43 to take on Malone tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
