HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Walsh Cavaliers softball team opened the 2019 regular season with a doubleheader in Tennessee on Saturday (Feb. 9).
The Cavaliers fell 12-4 to Maryville in game one and 9-0 to Lincoln Memorial in the nightcap.
Game One vs. Maryville
Maryville scored seven runs in the first two innings, taking the 7-2 lead.
The Cavaliers continued to chip away at the Saints in the fourth inning. Annie Dehnke and Rebekah Hoffee both walked and Olivia Edgell reached on an error. Loughman singled home Dehnke as the Cavs trailed 7-4.
Maryville scored four more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth, winning game one 12-4 in five innings.
Loughman led the team with two hits in the opener, with a run scored and driven in.
Game Two vs. Lincoln Memorial
The Railsplitters scored one run in the first, four in the second, three in the third and one in the fourth as Lincoln Memorial won 9-0 in five innings.
Hoffee had one hit for the Cavaliers in game two. Shelbi Gregg allowed three runs (one earned) in two innings of relief.
The Cavaliers will face the same two teams on Sunday (Feb. 10), concluding the weekend. Walsh will play Maryville at 10:00 AM and Lincoln Memorial at 3:00 PM.
