Preview: Fighting Scots & Panthers Up Next for Cavaliers

NORTH CANTON, Ohio – After playing five of the last seven games at Alumni Arena, the Walsh women's basketball team will embark on a four-game road swing for the first time since December. The Cavaliers will make stops in Vienna, West Virginia and Columbus, Ohio this weekend.  

On Thursday (Jan. 31), Walsh will play Ohio Valley at 5:30 PM and will end the weekend with Ohio Dominican on Saturday (Feb. 2) at 1:00 PM.  


The Cavaliers have faced the Fighting Scots of Ohio Valley only three times in the series history, all within the last two years. Walsh has won all three games, by an average margin of victory of 29.3 points. Earlier this season, Walsh won 90-56 at home. Quionche Carter led the Cavaliers with 27 points.  


  • Walsh is 13-6 overall and 9-4 in the conference following a 69-54 loss to Davis & Elkins on Saturday (Jan. 26) afternoon.  

  • Kimmie Borck led the Cavaliers with 11 points, including three treys. Borck has scored double-figures each of the last four games as she has averaged 10.75 points per game. Over her last four games, she is shooting 54.3% overall and 52.6% from three-point land.  

  • Quionche Carter added ten points off the bench after missing Thursday's game. Carter is leading the team and is second in the conference with 17.7 points per game. That is best for all qualified freshmen in Division 2 and fifth of all freshmen in the NCAA (all divisions). She is second on the team with 6.1 rebounds a game, with 2.4 offensive rebounds (4th in the G-MAC). She is shooting 50.9% overall, the best shooting percentage in the G-MAC. He is also eighth in terms of free throw percentage, making 76.7% of her free throws. She has a team-high 26 steals.  

  • Mayci Sales is second on the team with 10.6 points per game, while she is making 47.7% of her shots from the floor. She has a team-high 6.3 rebounds per contest with 100 total boards. The per game average is eighth in the G-MAC. Sales has the conference lead in blocks (26) and blocks per game (1.6).  

  • Jill Blacksten led the team with eight rebounds against Davis & Elkins, pushing her total to 88 (4.6 per game).  

  • Offensively, Walsh is the top team in the conference with 1,486 points (78.2 per game). The team is shooting 44.9% overall and 32.6% from three-point range, ranking 2nd and 6th, respectively. The team is 7th with 71.1% free throw percentage.  

  • The defense is holding teams to 66.8 points per game, the sixth lowest scoring average of 14 teams. Opposing teams are shooting 39.6% against the Cavaliers, ranking sixth in the circuit. Teams are only shooting 30.6% from downtown, the second lowest of 14 teams.  

  • Walsh rebounds well and doesn't allow teams to rebound against them. They grab 41.1 rebounds per game (780 total) and hold opposing teams to 33.1 per game. That ranks first in the conference on both ends. They lead the conference with 13.4 offensive rebounds and are third with 27.7 defensive rebounds.  

  • The team dishes out 15.2 assists per game (289 total) tied for the most in the conference and they love to block shots with 74 total 


  • Ohio Valley is 0-17 overall and 0-13 in the G-MAC after a 99-60 loss to Cedarville last week.  

  • The Fighting Scots have lost 51 straight games, dating back to January 2017.  

  • Imani Ward is the leading scorer for Ohio Valley with 10.5 points per game in two games so far this season.  

  • Brittany Hill averages 9.4 points a game with shooting 39.7% for the season. She adds 3.0 rebounds a game. 

  • Ariel Johnson scores 6.3 points along with 5.9 rebounds per contest as the leading rebounder. Johnson has 89 total rebounds and 17 blocks. She averages 1.1 blocks a game, fifth best in the conference. She grabbed 2.6 offensive rebounds a game, also fifth highest in the G-MAC.  

  • The Fighting Scots rank 14th in the conference with 54.1 points a game, 33.6% field goal percentage and 25.7% from three-point range. They are 12th with a 68% free throw percentage.  

  • As a defense, Ohio Valley allows 83.5 points per game, which is last in the league. Teams are shooting 43.1% overall and 34.8% from deep, 12th and 13th as a squad.  

  • They pull down 36.3 rebounds a game for seventh most out of 14 teams.  

  • The team leads the G-MAC with 4 blocks a game.  


  • Ohio Dominican has dropped two straight games, falling 81-69 to Cedarville and 93-79 to Tiffin last week.  

  • The Panthers are 10-9 overall and 7-6 in the G-MAC after the two-game slide.  

  • Angela Troyer is the leading scorer for the Panthers with 14.4 points per game, the fourth best total in the conference. She also has an average of 6.2 rebounds a game, tied for ninth in the conference. She shoots 46.9% from the floor, third best in the league. Troyer has 1.8 steals (sixth) in 35.3 minutes per game, third-most among G-MAC players.  

  • Alexa Fisher is right behind Troyer with 14.0 points a game, in fifth for the conference. With shooting 35.4% from the field, seventh-best in the conference. She is fifth in assists with 70 this season. The junior is one of two Panthers in the three pointers made category with 1.7 per contest. She is fourth in the conference and second on the Panthers with 33.6 minutes.  

  • Alli Kern is tied for the team-lead with 6.2 rebounds off the bench, where she is ninth in the conference. She grabbed 46 offensive rebounds this season, 2.9 per game, third in the conference.  

  • The team has averaged 68.6 points per game, seventh most in the conference. They shoot 42.4% overall and convert 36.1% of shots beyond the arc, fifth and third best in the league.  

  • Defensively, the Panthers allow 74.6 points a game, third most in the league. Teams are making 42.9% of shots and 32.9% of three-point shots.  

  • The team is middle of the pack with 38.1 rebounds a game.
