(VIENNA, West Virginia) - The Walsh women's basketball team traveled to Ohio Valley this evening to take on the Fighting Scots in their second matchup of the season. The Cavs posted a 67-40 victory over OVU to put them at 14-6 overall, and 10-4 in conference play.
The Fighting Scots were able to hang with the Cavaliers through the first quarter, as Walsh was only up 13-11 at the end of the first. The Cavs commanded the second quarter, not allowing an Ohio Valley field goal until halfway through the quarter. The Cavs ended the first half up 33-15 and extended their lead in the second half as they ended the third quarter up 54-26.
The bench played a crucial role in securing the victory as Jill Blacksten led the Cavaliers' scoring with 14 points on 5-9 shooting from the field and Kimmie Borck followed with 12 points on 5-6 shooting. Mayci Sales also connected for 12 points on 5-9 shooting, while also pulling down seven boards. Quionche Carter played a solid all-around game as she tossed in nine points to go along with six assists and four rebounds. Ten different players scored for the Cavaliers.
Brittany Hill led the Fighting Scots with 11 points on the evening. She was the only Ohio Valley player to reach double figures.
The Cavs will travel to Columbus, Ohio on Saturday (Feb. 2) to take on Ohio Dominican at 1 p.m.
