(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Sarah McCormick scored three goals and assisted on five more as Walsh picked up its first win of the season 16-5 over Notre Dame. The Cavaliers (1-2) were playing in their home opener and have now defeated the Falcons (2-3) three consecutive times.
Walsh never trailed in the game, but Notre Dame kept it close for the first 10 minutes of the game as the Falcons answered every Cavalier goal until the game was tied at 3-3. Jenny Spragg then scored her second goal to put the Maroon and Gold up 4-3 with 18:42 to go in the first half. The Cavs kept pouring it on after that as it started a 10-0 run that stretched into the second half.
McCormick scored two of her three goals during the run and assisted on three more. She was involved in the last three goals of the first half and the first two of the second.
Spragg tallied four goals and an assist for five points on the day. Armour scored three goals to give her 10 for the season. She added two assists on the day for five points.
Mikaela Faus picked up the win between the pipes as the netminder made a pair of saves on a limited Notre Dame attack thanks to a stout Cavaliers defense. Meghan Skrypka played the final few minutes and also made a pair of saves.
Walsh will continue its home stand and open up conference play as it hosts Ohio Valley on Friday. The Cavs and Fighting Scots are scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.
