(PHILIPPI, W.Va.) – Walsh kept its win streak intact with an exciting 9-7 victory over Alderson Broaddus on Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers (4-2, 3-0) won their fourth consecutive after they scored the final three goals of the game to beat the Battlers (3-6, 2-1).
Lane Brunkala started the final rally with the game-tying goal with 8:06 to go on an assist from Becky Parker. Twenty-six seconds later, Walsh regained the lead on a score by Emma Armour. Jenny Spragg provided an insurance goal on an assist from Brunkala with 5:03 left and held AB offense in check the rest of the way.
Brunkala had her best game of the season as she recorded the hat trick and three assists for six total points. Her first two goals helped give Walsh a 6-5 lead in the second half before Alderson Broaddus scored the next two goals.
The lead exchanged hands four times as Walsh scored the opening goal of the game before the Battlers answered with three of the next four. In the second half, Brunkala's first two capped another 3-0 run started by Parker.
Armour also finished with three goals and an assist for four points on the day. Parker finished with two goals and an assist.
Mikaela Faus recorded the win after playing the complete game between the pipes. She made seven saves on 20 shots faced. She was a force defensively in other ways as she added five caused turnovers and 11 ground balls.
Walsh will remain in the Mountain State as it will square off against Davis & Elkins in a rescheduled contest from Thursday. Opening draw is set for 3 p.m.
