(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) – The regular season came to a close for Walsh in an 18-6 defeat to Lake Erie at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium on Saturday. Both teams will head to postseason, however, as the Cavaliers (11-6, 8-4) will be the No. 3 seed, while the Storm (14-2, 12-0) will host after winning the conference championship.
As in their prior contest against each other, the Cavaliers once again started out strong and took a 3-2 lead after a pair of Becky Parker goals before a Sarah McCormick score midway through the first half. It was at that time Lake Erie took control of the game and closed the half on a 5-0 run and scored seven more to start the second half.
McCormick and Sam Paulson found the back of the net on back-to-back scores late in the second half, but Walsh couldn't generate any moment following and were held off the scoreboard until Emma Armour closed the game with the final score with 89 seconds left.
Mikaela Faus started the game in goal and made 10 saves on the day. She added five ground balls as well to tie for game-high honors.
Walsh will now move on to face Findlay in the G-MAC Tournament semifinals at a time to be determined.
