ALLIANCE, Ohio - The Walsh Cavaliers women's lacrosse team could not overcome a seven goal deficit in the first half as they dropped a non-conference battle with the Mount Union Purple Raiders, 14-8 on Wednesday (March 27) night at Mount Union Stadium.
Mount Union scored seven goals over the first 17 minutes of the game as they took a 7-0 lead over the Cavaliers. Becky Parker opened the scoring for the Cavaliers with an unassisted goal just seconds after the last Mount Union goal. The Purple Raiders added two more goals before Kendra Cowen-Tripp closed the scoring with a goal from Sam Paulson. The Cavaliers trailed 9-2 at halftime.
The Purple Raiders kicked off the second half with a goal three minutes in, with Skylar Crandell answering nearly thirty seconds after for the Cavaliers. Mount Union scored two more goals, making the lead 12-3 with 24 minutes left. For the first time in the game, Walsh strung together back-to-back goals as Hannah McFeeters scored followed by Lindsay Hindman, assisted by Paulson. Mount Union scored with 13 minutes left in the contest, with Walsh going back-to-back once again. Cowen-Tripp scored a man up goal on an assist from Ellen Lawrence, then McFeeters converted a free-position shot. The Purple Raiders scored their final goal of the game with 8:41 left. McFeeters capped her night with an unassisted goal in the final four minutes.
McFeeters had three goals with a team-high four groundballs and four draw controls. Cowen-Tripp scored two goals, along with one draw control and one caused turnover. Lawrence picked up three groundballs while Alli Phillips had two groundballs. Crandell, Hindman, Grace Andreski and Jenny Spragg all had two draw controls.
The Cavaliers will travel to Georgetown College for a matchup with the eighth-ranked (NAIA) Tigers on Saturday (March 30) at 2:00 PM.
