GEORGETOWN, Kentucky - The Walsh Cavaliers women' lacrosse team totaled 21 goals in a 21-13 win over the eighth ranked team in NAIA, the Georgetown (Ky.) Tigers on Saturday (March 30).
Walsh is now 8-2 on the season, leading into conference play this week.
After Georgetown opened the game with a goal, Walsh scored five straight goals in six minutes for a 5-1 advantage. The Tigers closed the gap to 6-5 before Walsh scored three straight goals, taking a 9-5 lead. Walsh led 10-6 at halftime. Kendra Cowen-Tripp and Jenny Spragg each had two goals while Ellen Lawrence, Becky Parker, Hannah McFeeters, Skylar Crandell, Sarah Dankowski and Sam Paulson each scored one goal.
The Cavaliers scored eight of the first ten goals in the second half, opening a ten point advantage. The Tigers answered with four consecutive goals, until Walsh ended the game with four of the last five goals. The Cavaliers outscored the Tigers 11-7 in the second half, winning 21-13. Lindsay Hindman had three goals in the second half with McFeeters and Cowen-Tripp adding two each. Lawrence, Parker, Crandell and Dankowski all had one goal in the second half.
Cowen-Tripp led the Cavaliers with four goals and four groundballs while also having one assist. McFeeters and Hindman had three goals apiece. McFeeters had four draw controls and Hindman also had four groundballs. Dankowski, Lawrence, Spragg and Crandell all had two goal games.
The Cavaliers will open conference play with a home game against Findlay on Thursday (April 4) at 5:00 PM.
