(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – A late goal by Slippery Rock doomed Walsh in a defensive battle as it fell 1-0 in non-conference action at Milazzo Field on Saturday evening. The Cavaliers dropped to 3-2-1 on the season, while the Rock improved to 6-1.
The lone goal came in the 77th minute as Madison Johnson scored her first goal of the season on a header with Skye Kramer assisting on the play. Walsh pelted the Slippery Rock goalie with shot after shot following, but Emma Yoder made three saves in the final minutes while the two other shots were wide left and high.
Overall Walsh controlled the offensive tempo and outshot the Rock 14-8 in the game. The Cavaliers' chances were evenly split between the two halves while Slippery Rock's were second-half heavy with six takes at the net. Mickey McClanahan was able to come up with four saves on the night.
The Maroon and Gold will return to G-MAC action this Thursday as they host Davis & Elkins in the second of a four-game home stand. Kickoff with the Senators is slated for 5 p.m.
