(INDIANAPOLIS) – Corynne Swift is this week's Great Midwest Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week after helping Walsh to a pair of victories against Tiffin and Findlay last week. The senior defensive midfielder scored a goal against the Dragons and help shutdown the previously unbeaten Oilers from tying the game late.
In a fast start against Tiffin, Swift scored on a set play off of a corner kick by Olivia Peters. That made the score 2-0 in favor of the Maroon and Gold just 11:21 into the game. From there, Walsh limited the Dragon's chances with a lockdown defense and offensive pressure. Once full time was reached, Tiffin managed only four shots and one corner kick in the game.
Against the Oilers on the road, the hosts took a fast lead on a free kick just 3:54 into the contest, but Walsh answered with two goals in the next 15 minutes. After assuming the lead, the Swift-led defense locked down on the opponent's offense once again and limited their chances. Findlay was allowed just seven shots and three corner kicks in the game.
Possession was largely in the Cavaliers' control against the Oilers, who were previously undefeated and still hold onto first place in the G-MAC standings.
Walsh will continue its road trek this week as it heads south for contests against Trevecca Nazarene on Thursday and Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday.
