Himes Named G-MAC Defensive Player of the Week

(INDIANAPOLIS) – Thanks to her game-winning goal against the first place team in the G-MAC, Alisha Himes has been named this week's Defensive Player of the Week for the conference. The junior defender scored in the 78th minute to cap a thrilling comeback for Walsh against Ohio Valley on Saturday.

Of course Himes helped the Cavaliers control the tempo of the game as well defensively. With her help, the Maroon and Gold was able outshoot the Fighting Scots 18-15. OVU was previously unbeaten in the G-MAC and still remains the best offensive team in the conference in shots, points, and goals.

Despite playing defense, it's the fourth goal Himes has scored this season. She also scored the game-winner in the season opener at Southern Indiana. Himes went on to score goals against Cedarville and Alderson Broaddus as well.

This is the third time Walsh has had a player named Defensive Player of the Week. Back in Week 1, Mickey McClanhan was named after a pair of shutouts. Corynne Swift joined her two weeks ago after a pair of victories against Tiffin and Findlay. It's also Himes' second Defensive Player of the Week honor after being named last season as well.

Himes and the Cavaliers will return to action and start a three-game home stand Thursday against Lake Erie. Kickoff with the storm is set for 7 p.m.
