INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - The 2019 Great Midwest Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll presented by Under Armour was announced earlier this week and the Walsh Cavaliers women's soccer team found themselves in the leaders spot.
Walsh was voted the preseason favorite by the head coaches with 98 points and five first place votes. The Cavaliers finished runners up in the G-MAC Tournament to Ohio Valley, whose program was suspended for the 2019 season.
Newly promoted head coach Lauren Lewicki spoke about being picked as the favorite, "This conference has become very competitive. We are very humbled to be selected as the season favorite, as any of the top five teams could have been selected the same. We have a challenging road ahead, but are excited to work toward living up to our potential."
Findlay was in second with two first place votes and Trevecca Nazarene rounded out the top three with three first place votes.
Last season, the Cavaliers finished 15-5-1 with an appearance in the G-MAC championship and appearance in the NCAA tournament. This marked the program's first NCAA tournament bid and first NCAA post-season victory when the Cavs defeated Saginaw Valley (1-0) in the first round of the regional tournament. Walsh will return 21 members from the 2018 team.
