Women's Tennis Cruises By Allegheny For First Win

(PITTSBURGH) – Walsh recorded its first win of the season as it cruised to an 8-1 win over hosting Allegheny College on Tuesday afternoon. The Cavaliers are now 1-4 on the season.

The day started out well as the Maroon and Gold swept all three doubles matches. The duo of Sofya Logunova and Mercedes Fernandez had the easiest time with an 8-1 defeat of Gaby DeLeon and Michaela Thompson at the first spot.

Victoria Ambrosio and Gabriela Laguna-Leon fought to an 8-5 win at second doubles while Daria Bondareva and Snezhana Kiseleva completed the sweep with an 8-2 win at third doubles.

In singles action, Fernandez and Bondareva wasted little time in disposing of their opponents as both won with 6-0 sets across the board at second and third. Logunova also finished off her opponent fast with 6-2, 6-1 sets at first singles.

Kiseleva defeated her opponent at fifth singles 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) and Laguna-Leon followed with a 6-0, 7-6 win at the sixth spot to set up the final score.

The Cavaliers return to action this weekend as they participate in the annual NCAA Division II ITA Midwest Regional Tournament. The tournament starts Friday and will run through Sunday.
