(PHILIPPI, W.Va.) – It was a perfect weekend once again for the Walsh women's tennis team as it defeated Alderson Broaddus 8-1 in G-MAC. The Cavaliers (8-7, 4-0) have now won four-straight to open up conference play with the victory over the Battlers (0-5, 0-1).
Walsh jumped ahead early as it made short work of the doubles portion of the match. The first doubles pairing of Mercedes Fernandez and Clara Drasch as well as the second doubles tandem of Maria Kacalova and Katarina Razum both won their matches by 8-2 scores. Sofia Khairutdinova and Parvanee Karimpour were also impressive with an 8-3 win at third doubles.
The Cavaliers had little trouble in singles action as they limited the opposition to no more than two games in a set in four of their five wins. Third through fifth singles allowed just a combined two games in six sets.
Kacalova went on to complete her perfect day with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at second singles. Drasch followed with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at thirds.
Razum had the clean sheet in singles action with a pair of 6-0 sets over her opponent in the fourth spot. Victoria Ambrosio picked up a victory at the five-spot with a 6-0, 6-1 decision. Karimpour closed out the points for Walsh with a 6-2, 6-2 victory in sixth singles.
Walsh is back in action on Friday when they host Kentucky Wesleyan in G-MAC action.
