Women's Tennis Defeats Edinboro to Open 2019

ERIE, Pa. - The Walsh Cavaliers women's tennis team began the 2019 portion of the season with a 6-1 road win over the Edinboro Fighting Scots at Westwood Racquet Club on Saturday (Feb. 2) afternoon. 

Walsh won five of the six singles matches on the day and swept the doubles matches, leading to the 6-1 victory. The Cavaliers are now 2-2 on the season. 

Katarina Razum picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win in second singles over Tatiana Batella. Maria Kacalova swept the third singles match over Jelena Vucenovic, 6-0, 6-3. In fourth singles, Clara Drasch won 6-0, 6-0 against Hannah Brentar. Nicole Beidacki also picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory in fifth singles versus Paige Morris. Sofia Khairutdinova won via forfeit in her sixth singles match. 

Beidacki and Mercedes Fernandez set the tone with a 6-0 win over Laura Lopez and Batella in first doubles and Drasch/Khairutdinova also won 6-0 against Vucenovic and Brentar in second doubles. Razum and Kacalova won by forfeit in the third doubles contest. 

Walsh will return to the court on Sunday (Feb. 3) as they host Salem International at 4:00 PM.
