Cavaliers Topple Saginaw Valley State, 6-1

MIDLAND, Mich. - After a win over Daemen on Saturday (Feb. 16), the Walsh women's tennis team won their second straight match. The Cavaliers toppled the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals 6-1 on Sunday (Feb. 17) at the Greater Midland Tennis Center. 

Mercedes Fernandez and Nicole Beidacki were victorious in the first doubles match 6-3 over Maddie Miller and Joanne Gao. Maya Campbell and Taylor McLaughlin knotted the doubles matches at one aside in a 7-5 win over Katarina Razum and Clara Drasch. Sofia Khairutdinova and Parvanee Karimpour won the third doubles match by default, giving the Cavaliers the doubles point. 

On the singles side, Walsh won five of six matches to clinch the victory. The first three singles bouts were three set battles. Fernandez defeated Miller 5-7, 6-4, 10-8 in the opening singles match. Gao was victorious against Razum 6-4, 1-6, 10-6 in the second singles slot. Maria Kacalova came out on top in third singles over McLaughlin, 4-6, 7-6, 12-10. Drasch dispatched Campbell in straight sets 7-6, 6-3 in the fourth singles match. Nicole Beidacki won her fifth singles match over Nicole Johnson 6-4, 7-5. Khairutdinova won by default in the sixth singles bout. 

The Cavaliers are 4-3 as they will continue the roadtrip at Northwood on Monday (Feb. 18) morning at 11:00 AM.
