Cavaliers Tennis Competes Twice in Lima

LIMA, Ohio – The men and women's tennis team competed in Lima, Ohio against the Davenport Panthers and the Northwestern Ohio Racers at the Westwood Tennis Center on Friday (March 15) and Saturday (March 16).

The men's team fell 4-1 to the Panthers and 5-2 to the Racers this weekend. The women's team defeated both teams 5-1 over the course of two matches.

Men's Tennis

Against Davenport, Jakob Riglewski earned the only point for the Cavaliers with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 victory over Matias Vargas in first singles.

The Panthers earned the doubles point with two out of three doubles wins along with three singles victories. Two singles bouts were left unfinished.

Walsh got two points in a 5-2 defeat against the Racers. Riglewski won his second match of the weekend with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Artur Culicovschi at first singles.

Dawson Drummond and Joao Campos earned a 6-3 win in first doubles over Culicovschi and Marcos Salazar.

The men's team will travel to Findlay to begin conference play on Saturday (March 23).

Women's Tennis

Walsh won four of five completed singles matches and earned the doubles point in a 5-1 win over Davenport. Maria Kacalova won a three-set battle at second singles against Hannah Murphy, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. Clara Drasch won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2 against Vladislava Shumilova in third singles. Katharina Razum was a 6-0, 6-1 winner in fourth singles over Bruna Ralheta. Sofia Khairutdinova won by default in the sixth singles slot.

Drasch and Parvanne Karimpour were victorious 6-3 in second doubles before Khairutdinova and Razum were winners by default, earning the Cavaliers the doubles point.

Walsh won all doubles matches en route to a 5-1 win over Northwestern Ohio. Mercedes Fernandez and Nicole Beidacki won 6-3 in first doubles over Camila Puente and Gabriela Eva. Kacalova and Razum were 7-6 winners against Veronica Rydstrom and Lena Tessmer in second doubles. Drasch and Karimpour completed the doubles sweep with a 7-6 win over Milica Karanovic and Ellen Sandstrom.

Kacalova defeated Rydstrom 7-5, 6-2 in second singles before Khairutdinova sealed the win 6-4, 6-2 over Karanovic.

The women's team will open Great Midwest play at Findlay at 12:00 PM on Wednesday (March 20).
