TIFFIN, Ohio – The Walsh Cavaliers women's tennis team won their fourth straight match and second straight in the G-MAC in a 4-3 victory over the Tiffin Dragons on Sunday (March 24) afternoon.
Walsh won the match on a huge rally by Sofia Khairutdinova in the sixth singles match.
The Cavaliers opened the match with the doubles point as they won two of the first three doubles matches. Tiffin won the second doubles slot before Mercedes Fernandez and Nicole Beidacki defeated Lauren Prince and Juliette Sirgant 6-2 in the first doubles bout. Clara Drasch and Parvanee Karimpour clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory over Milah Ryland and Shea Foster in third doubles.
The Dragons tied the match at one with a win in the second singles slot. Fernandez was a straight set winner, 6-3, 6-1 over Riley at first singles. Katharina Razum gave the Cavaliers a 3-1 lead with a 6-3, 6-4 win in fifth singles against Ryland. Tiffin rallied with wins at third and fourth singles, making the sixth singles match the key match.
Khairutdinova defeated Foster 6-1 in the first set before Foster won set two 7-5. Foster took a 3-0 lead in the third set, but Khairutdinova didn't falter. She won the next six games for a 6-3 win in set three and the Cavaliers won the team match 4-3.
The Cavaliers will host Cedarville on Friday (March 30) at 3:00 PM.
