Women's Tennis Drops NCAA Regional Match at Wayne State

DETROIT, Michigan - The Walsh Cavaliers women's tennis team battled the #2 seed in the Midwest Region, Wayne State in the opening round of the 2019 NCAA Midwest Regional on Monday (May 13) at Peachtree Tennis Club. 

After the Cavaliers won the doubles point, the Warriors won four of the six singles matches, winning the match 4-1. 

Wayne State took the first doubles match at second doubles. Maria Kacalova and Katharina Razum fell to Linda Liong and Laura Cazacu 6-1. Walsh came back and took the last two doubles matches for the doubles point. Clara Drasch and Parvanee Karimpour were victorious 6-4 over Astrid Ciellza and Stephanie Stamate in third doubles. In the first doubles slot, Mercedes Fernandez and Nicole Beidacki were victorious 7-6 (7-4) over Dasha Kuznetsova and Khadija Da-Silva, clinching the first point of the match. 

The Warriors were victorious at second, third, fourth and sixth singles while the first and fifth singles matches were unfinished. 

Walsh ended the 2019 season with a 16-10 record after finishing second in the G-MAC standings and tournament.
