(MUSKINGUM, Ohio) – Walsh started the outdoor track and field season on the right foot with a win at the Amy Adams Invitational hosted by Muskingum on Saturday. The Cavaliers finished with 143 points to edge out rival Malone who had 136.
Ohio Wesleyan finished third with 110 points. John Carroll with 97.5 and Wayne State with 69 rounded out the top five.
Multiple Cavs placed during the event with Kaitlin Barber (Fr., Toledo, OH/Whitmer) picking up where she left off during the indoor season. She won the pole vault and recorded her first provisional mark with a height of 3.61 meters.
Elsewhere in the field events, Shannon Montgomery (Jr., Newton Falls, OH/HS) won the discus with a throw of 43.11 meters. She followed up with a fourth place finish in the hammer throw with a best-distance of 43.5 meters.
Walsh's also finished first in the 4x400 meter relay and 800 meter run. The quartet of Barber, Sarah Berger (Fr., Wadsworth, OH/HS), Karley Dougherty (Fr., Clinton, OH/Manchester), and Mikayla Dearing (So., Navarre, OH/Perry) ran to the top spot with a time of 4:08.99 and edged out Malone's time of 4:09.09. In the 800, Berger also finished first with a time of 2:18.83. She was followed by her teammate Maggie Kroll (Fr., Waterford, OH/HS) in third place with a time of 2:30.25. Kroll also finished fourth in the 1,500 meter run.
Katie Mokros (Fr., Massillon, OH/Central Catholic) had a strong day with a pair of second place finishes. She finished the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.92 and the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.53. Hannah Luke had a couple of placers with a second place time of 59.29 in the 400 meter dash and a fourth place time of 13:48 in the 100 meter dash.
Alyssa Anderson (Jr., Canfield, OH/Ursuline) finished second in the 10K. She debuted with a time of 42:09. Victoria Reeves (Fr., Alliance, OH/Marlington) finished third in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 5:00.33. Kate Ryan (Sr., Alliance, OH/Marlington) finished third in 5,000 meter run with a time of 19:10.
The Cavaliers will return to action this Friday in a pair of events. Part of the squad will participate in the Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State while the other part heads to Wooster.
