Cavs Run In Raleigh Relays and Wooster Invite

(RALEIGH, N.C. / WOOSTER, Ohio) – The Walsh track and field teams had a busy weekend as they had split squads at the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State and at the Wooster Invitational. While the Raleigh Relays weren't a team scored event, the Cavaliers posted a fourth place finish at Wooster out of 11 teams.

In Raleigh, Sarah Berger (Fr., Wadsworth, OH/HS) ran a 4:34.47 in her first 1,500 meter run and hit the provisional mark set at 4:34.73. As if that wasn't enough, she shattered the school record by an astounding 16 seconds. The previous record was set by Katherine Drap in 2001.

Kaitlyn Barber (Fr., Toledo, OH/Whitmer) finished ninth overall in the pole vault with a jump of 11 feet, 5.75 inches.

At Wooster, Maggie Kroll (Fr., Waterford, OH/HS) won the 5,000 meter run with a time of 19:13.65. Walsh dominated the event as Jill Bresnahan (So., Cleveland, OH/St. Joseph) finished third with a time of 19:36.95 and Amanda Vincent (Fr., Louisville, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) finished sixth with a  time of 19:56.27.

Kendra Zbinovec (So., Lyndhurst, OH/NDCL) won the shot put with a distance of 11.47 meters. She also finished second in the javelin with a throw of 26.46 meters and third in the discus with a throw of 33.84 meters.

The Cavs had three other placers in the javelin as Rose Tupta (So., Twinsburg, OH/Trinity), Laura Kozuszek (Sr., Pleasant Hill, OH/Newton Local), and Karley Dougherty (Fr., Clinton, OH/Manchester) finished fourth through sixth, respectively.

Erin Peskura (Jr., Strongsville, OH/HS) finished second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.3. She gave the Cavs  four more points with a fifth place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.38.

In the 400 meter dash, Margaret Liberatore (So., Concord, OH/Riverside) gave Walsh eight points with a second place finish with a time of 1:03.49. Dougherty finished fifth in the same event with a time of 1:06.66.

Walsh will be in action a little closer to home next week as it heads to Alliance to participate in the John Homon Open hosted by Mt. Union. The event will take place on Friday and Saturday.
