(ALLIANCE, Ohio) - The John Homon Open hosted by the University of Mount Union Started today, but weather caused some rescheduling of events so only a few Walsh athletes were in action today. The postponed events will be held tomorrow in with the rest of the meet events.
In total, the only events held today were the women's hammer, men's and women's pole vault, men's and women's high jump, and men's and women's high jump.
For the women, Kaitlyn Barber (Fr., Toledo, OH/Whitmer) was the highlight of the day as she won the pole vault competition. She had a best jump of 3.56 meters (11 feet, 8 inches) to take the top spot
In the women's hammer throw, Kendra Zbinovec (So., Lyndhurst, OH/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) and Kendra Britzman (Jr., Canton, OH/South) both hit personal bests with Zbinovec just shy of the school record at 44.27 meters as Britzman threw a distance of 44.03 meters.
In the only running event of the day, Kate Ryan placed sixth with a personal best 19:04. Sarah Torok (So., Strongsville, OH/HS) finished eighth with a personal best time of 19:22.
The John Homon Open is scheduled to conclude tomorrow.
