(ALLIANCE, Ohio) - The Walsh women's track and field team put up some impressive results on the second day of the John Homon Open hosted by Mount Union this weekend. Shannon Montgomery (Jr., Newton Falls, OH/HS) was the lone first place winner on the day as she won the discus with a distance of 41.03 meters, or 134 feet, 7 inches.
Many athletes turned in second place finishes, but none made more of a mark than Sarah Berger's (Fr., Wadsworth, OH/HS) 800 meter run. Berger finished the event with a time of 2:16.82. It was good enough to get her second place, but it also broke a 12-year-old school record. The previous best was set by Cara Klein in 2003 as she ran a 2:17.05.
The Cavs also finished second in the 4x100 meter relay, 400 meter dash, 1,500 meter run, and shot put. The 4x100 meter relay team of Erin Peskura (Jr., Strongsville, OH/HS), Meredith Fennell (Fr., Canal Fulton, OH/Northwest), Katie Mokros (Fr., Massillon, OH/Central Catholic), and Hannah Luke (Fr., Massillon, OH/Perry) finished second with a time of 49.52.
