(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Personal and school records were highlights for the Cavaliers as they hosted the Walsh Invitational at Milazzo Field on a beautiful Saturday.
On the women's side, a 30-year-old school record fell early as the 4x100 meter relay team of Meredith Fennell (Fr., Canal Fulton, OH/Northwest), Foley, Katie Mokros (Fr., Massillon, OH/Jackson), and Hannah Luke (Fr., Massillon, OH/Perry) clocked in at 48.74. The old record was 48.9 set by Dunne, Ryman, Sanner, and Simunic in 1985.
It wasn't the only relay the broke a school mark as the 4x400 squad of Margaret Liberatore (So., Concord, OH/Riverside), Sarah Berger (Fr., Wadsworth, OH/HS), Mikayla Dearing (So., Navarre, OH/Perry), and Luke closed out the day with a time of 3:55.80. The old record was set in 2011 by Daltorio, Martter, Martin, and Swarny with a time of 3:57.14.
For first place finishes, Berger won the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:36.52. Dearing also finished first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.95 and was just shy of the school record. Maggie Kroll (Fr., Waterford, OH/HS) also raced in the 1,500 meter run and 800 meter run and recorded PR's in both with times of 4:57.68 and 2:26.73, respectively.
In field events, Shannon Montgomery (Jr., Newton Falls, OH/HS), Kendra Zbinovec (So., Lyndhurst, OH/NDCL), and Kendra Britzman (Jr., Canton, OH/South) all threw personal bests in the discus. Montgomery finished second in the event and threw a provisional distance of 44.04 meters. Zbinovec threw 39.78 meters and Britzman threw 37.20 meters.
On Friday at Ashland, Karley Dougherty (Fr., Clinton, OH/Manchester) and Laura Kozuszek (Sr., Pleasant Hill, OH/Newton Local) both threw PRs in the javelin with distances of 31.64 and 28.30 meters respectively.
The Cavaliers return to the track and field this Friday as they participate in the Alumni Invitational at Ashland.
