(ALLENDALE, Mich.) – Freshman sensation Sarah Berger (Wadsworth, OH/HS) finished her season in the 1,500 meter run on the opening day of the Division II Track and Field Outdoor National Championships Thursday afternoon. She was one of 20 participants in the distance run.
Berger ran in the first of two heats and completed the near-mile run in 4:39.17. That put her ninth out of 10th in her heat. Overall, she finished 18th as her time topped one other runner in the second heat.
A total of 12 of the 20 runners advanced to Saturday's final. The top runners from each heat plus the next four fastest times made the cut.
Ewa Zaborowska of Harding turned in the top time at 4:28.44. Olivia Watt of Chico State, Mireia Guarner of West Texas A&M, and Molly Montonye of MSU-Moorhead all finished within a second of her for the next three best times. All four ran in Berger's heat.
Berger concludes her excellent year as an All-Region runner in track and an All-GLIAC Second Team selection in soccer. She broke six school records indoors and outdoors in track and field this season.
