Berger Wins Mile, Barber Second In Pole Vault

(GENEVA, Ohio) – The Walsh track & field team capped off a strong weekend at the Midwest Open held at the state-of-the-art SPIRE Institute all day Saturday. In total, five school records were broken between the men's and women's squads.

On the women's side, sophomore standout Sarah Berger won the mile event in which she broke her own school record with a time of 4:59.38, two seconds ahead of her closest competitor.

Kaitlyn Barber turned in a second place finish in the pole vault as her best height measured in a 3.67 meters. Barber also had a solid day on the track as she ran the lead leg of the 4x400 meter relay team that finished third with a time of 4:01.15. Berger joined her in that event as the second runner. Emily Joyce and Jetaiya Smith rounded out the quartet listing.

Elsewhere, Kendra Zbinovec placed sixth in the women's shot put with a throw of 12.86 meters and Margaret Liberatore placed seventh in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:44.99.

Walsh will return to action a week from today at the Jim Wuske Invitational hosted by Mount Union.
