(ALLIANCE, Ohio) – The Walsh track & field teams had impressive showings at the Jim Wuske Invitational hosted by Mount Union as a combined 35 individuals or teams placed in the various events. The women were responsible for over half of them with 18.
Four Cavaliers finished in first place with three coming on the track and the other in the field. Jetaiya Smith took top honors in the 400 meter dash with a time of 59.20, Meredith Fennell won the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.03, and Tori Reeves won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:20.54. In the field, Hannah Grace won the triple jump with a distance of 9.89 meters.
Walsh finished second in three events. Kaitlyn Barber was second in the pole vault with a height of 3.65 meters and Kendra Zbinovec also took a silver finish in the shot put with a throw of 13.2 meters. On the track, the 4x400 meter relay team of Barber, Emily Joyce, Margaret Liberatore, and Smith finished runner-up with a time of 4:06.35.
Fourth place finishes went to Katherine Schierloh in the high jump with a best height of 1.51 meters and Emily Joyce in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:01.93. Fifth place finishes went to Sarah Torok in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 11:14.68 and Liberatore in the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:23.66.
Sixth place finishes went to Hope Schilling in the shot put with a throw of 11.04 meters, Malia Turley in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.126 seconds, and Maggie Kroll in the mile run with a time of 5:29.03.
Katie Mokros finished seventh in the 60 meter dash behind Turley by just .004, and Turley also turned in an eighth place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.03.
The Cavaliers return to action at the Grand Valley State Big Meet this Friday and Saturday.
