(KENT, Ohio) – The Walsh track and field teams had an exciting day as six school records were set or matched at the Kent State Tune Up today. Four of those came on the women's side as Jetaiya Smith, Meredith Fennell, and Sarah Berger all had spectacular days.
Fennell was responsible for two of the records, one of which was her own in the long jump. Today she placed fifth with a new school mark of 5.52 meters. She also set the new mark in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.98 meters for a fourth place finish.
Jetaiya Smith set a new mark in the 400 meter dash as she completed the event with a time of 58.5 for a fifth place finish. Berger also set a new record in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:13.63 and finished second. Both of them were also on the 4x400 meter relay team that finished fifth with a time of 4:06.16. Kaitlyn Barber and Emily Joyce, respectively, ran the first two legs before Berger and Smith finished the event.
Kendra Zbinovec was the final placement for the Cavs as she finished seventh in the shot put with a throw of 13.6 meters.
The Cavaliers now gear up for the GLIAC Indoor Championships. That will be hosted by Tiffin next weekend.
