(TIFFIN, Ohio) – After the second and final day of competition, the Walsh women's track and field team finished eighth in the GLIAC Indoor Championships hosted by Tiffin University. The Cavaliers finished with 26 points.
Grand Valley State easily won the championship with a total score of 172. Hillsdale was runner-up with 101.5. Ashland, Findlay, and Saginaw Valley State rounded out the top five. Wayne State and Tiffin were sixth and seventh, respectively.
Kendra Zbinovec turned in a sixth place performance in the shot put with a distance of 13.88 meters to improve her national mark and school record.
Sarah Berger had another strong day as she placed fourth in the mile with a time of 4:56.9. Berger was also on the 4x400 meter relay team that finished eighth with a time of 3:59.07. Berger ran the third leg of a quartet that also consisted of Kaitlyn Barber, Emily Joyce, and Jetaiya Smith.
Catie Campbell was the final Cavalier to place in the championships with an eighth place finish in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 17:52.63.
Teams and individuals that placed in the top eight over the weekend also earned All-GLIAC honors.
The Cavaliers will now wait and see if anyone qualifies for the national championship meet in Pittsburg, Kan., this Friday and Saturday.
