(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The Walsh women's track and field capped off a busy weekend at the John Homon Open with many athletes placing throughout the two-day event. Teams took a break yesterday with bad weather postponing the second day of action until today.
In total, the Cavaliers tallied four first place finishes with three on the track and one in the field. Walsh was close to adding another in the field with a second place finish.
Jetaiya Smith took the gold in the 400 meter dash as she crossed the finish line with a time of 58.44. All-American Sarah Berger continued her impressive season with a first place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:16.06 for a new school record. Not too far behind her was Tori Reeves who clocked in at 2:23.74 for a sixth place finish. Reeves wasn't done as she took top honors in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:47.41.
Alyssa Anderson added a third place finish in the 10,000 meter run. She finished the longest race of the day in 39:35.34.
Kaitlyn Barber recorded the final first place finish in the pole vault. Her best height came at 3.78 meters. Kendra Zbinovec took second place in the shot put to round out the placings. Her best throw was 13.13 meters.
The Cavaliers will return to action next weekend in their only home meet of the season. The Walsh Invitational will be held on Friday and Saturday.
