(SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.) – The elements may have been an issue at times during the evening, but it didn't stop Walsh from placing in multiple events in the Slippery Rock Open on Thursday. Division II teams weren't scored in the event that featured high wind and heavy rain at times.
On the women's side, the Cavaliers placed in 10 different events with first place finishes in four of them.
On the track, Jetaiya Smith took top honors in the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.07. Emily Joyce was third in the same event with a time of 1:00.24. The other first place finish on the track went to Breanne Bakan in the 800 meter run. She finished the two-lap race with a time of 2:22.89.
Elsewhere Alyssa Anderson was third in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 19:13.95. Malia Turley finished eighth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.65 and Lauren Bower was eighth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.92.
In the field, Shannon Montgomery took home a first and second place finish in the discus and hammer throw, respectively. Her best throw in the discus was 43.11 meters and was close to that in the hammer with a distance of 42.24 meters.
Kendra Zbinovec was fourth in the discus with a distance of 38.16 meters. She also had a first place finish in the shot put with a throw of 12.79 meters. Hope Schilling was sixth in that event with a throw of 11.68 meters. Annie Fahey was fifth in the hammer with a throw of 39.87 meters.
In the jumps, Evan Haney finished second in the high jump with a height of 1.58 meters. Katherine Schierloh was fourth with a jump of 1.48 meters. Dominique Foley tied her and also finished fourth in the long jump with a distance of 5.24 meters.
Walsh will be back in action this weekend at the Jesse Owens Invitational hosted by Ohio State University.
