(ASHLAND, Ohio) – The conditions weren't ideal for track & field this weekend, but Walsh still competed and had impressive finishes at the Alumni Invitational hosted by Ashland this weekend.
On the women's side, the Cavaliers turned in placers in nine events with first place finishes in two of them.
On the track, the 4x400 meter relay team of Kaitlyn Barber, Emily Joyce, Margaret Liberatore and Jetaiya Smith finished first with a time of 3:59.45. The 4x100 meter relay team of Erica Hicks, Fennell, Katie Mokros and Malia Turley also did well as they finished fifth with a time of 49.42.
Elsewhere, Tori Reeves was third in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:19.07, Breanne Bakan was fifth in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:57.49, and Meredith Fennell was sixth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.79.
In the field, Kendra Zbinovec won the shot put with a throw of 13.47 meters. She also finished fifth in the discus with a throw of 41.38 meters. Shannon Montgomery finished fourth in the Invite portion of the discus with a throw of 43.06 meters.
Barber was second in the pole vault with a height of 3.96 meters in a field loaded with Division I athletes, one of which was the first place finisher. Second through sixth places also went to athletes from Division I schools.
The Cavaliers return to action this week at the GLIAC Championships. They will be hosted by Ferris State in Big Rapids, Mich.
