(BIRMINGHAM, Ala.) – Sarah Berger and Andra Lehotay qualified for the finals of the mile by finishing second and third in their heat today at NCAA Division II indoor national championships. The duo also posted the second and third best times out of everyone just behind Emilee Trost of Minnesota Duluth.
Berger finished the race in 4:46:56, just .03 behind Trost. Lehotay was right there with them and crossed the finish line with a time of 4:46.67.
The top three finishers of each heat automatically qualify for the finals in addition to the next three best times from either heat.
Berger became an All-American last year in this event after she finished fourth with a time of 4:49.49. Her time in this heat set a new school record.
The finals will be held on Saturday at 5:15 p.m. EST, but both Berger and Lehotay will both be in action again tomorrow as half of the women's distance medley relay team which races at 7:55 p.m. EST.
