(BAY CITY, Mich.) – For the fourth time this season, Sarah Berger has been named GLIAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week. It's the second time she's received the honor in three weeks of the outdoor season, and was named so after running in a different event.
At Mount Union's John Homon Open, Berger not only won the 3,000 meter steeplechase, but she qualified for the national championships in the event. She finished with a time of 10:15.3, the best time in not only the conference, but the nation as well. Berger was just .03 from a top-10 time in Division II history.
Berger, a four-time All-American, has already qualified for the national championships in the 1,500 meter run. She adds the steeplechase to the mix after running it for the first time this season and breaking the automatic qualifying mark by six seconds.
This week Walsh will be in action in two meets. On Friday, select Cavs will head to Bucknell to participate in the Bison Classic. On Saturday, Walsh will host an Invitational with up to 16 teams set to compete.
