Women's Track Wins Walsh Invitational

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Sixteen schools all met at Milazzo Field for the Walsh Invitational with the Cavaliers finishing well in both men's and women's events. On the women's side, the Cavaliers won the event with 105 points. John Carroll finished second with 97.

Katie Mokros finished first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.14. Rachael Kotoch was eighth in the same event with a time of 12.67. Lien Torfs finished sixth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.56. Jetaiya Smith was sixth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 58.79. Mereidth Fennell won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.32.

In the relays, Walsh finished second in the 4x100 and third in the 4x400. The 4x100 squad consisted of Fennell, Kotoch, Mokros and Torfs. They zipped around the track in a time of 47.67.

Grier Cowles, Margaret Liberatore, Emily Joyce, and Smith ran the 4x400 and completed the race in 4:07.55.

In the 5,000 meter run, Amanda Vincent and Erin Housley did well for the Cavaliers. Vincent was first with a time of 19:04.01. Housley was sixth with a time of 20:27.24.

In the field events, All-American Kaitlyn Barber won the pole vault with a height of 3.80 meters. Katherine Schierloh was fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.56 meters. Fennell was fourth in the long jump with a distance of 5.27 meters.

Walsh also had success in the throwing events. Kendra Zbinovec highlighted the section with a second place finish in the shot put with a distance of 13.97 meters. Morrisa Mallory was fourth at 13.37 meters. Zbinovec wasn't done as she placed fourth in the discus as well. Her best throw was 41.38 meters.

Payton Breehl finished third in the hammer with a distance of 50.37 meters. Annie Fahey was sixth with a distance of 46.20 meters. Danielle Buzzacco finished fifth in the javelin with a distance of 31.34 meters.
