Barber, Berger, Lehotay Returning To Nationals

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – The NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championship qualifiers have been announced and the Walsh Cavaliers will send four to Bradenton, Florida. The women's team will send three, while the men's team will send one.

For the women, four-time All-American Sarah Berger will be making her third-straight appearance in the outdoor championships. She will be competing in the 1,500 meter run where she has the second-best time in the nation out of all competitors that declared. Berger ran a time of 4:19.79 in her first outdoor meet of the year at the Raleigh Relays. Berger finished second nationally last season in the event with a time of 4:22.09.

Joining her will be fellow All-Americans Kaitlyn Barber in the pole vault and Andra Lehotay who is also running the 1,500 meters.

This will be Barber's second trip the outdoor national championships after she finished 14th last season. She finished third nationally at the indoor championships this season with a mark of 4.02 meters to earn All-American honors for the second time in her career. Barber has the seventh-best height of competitors in the event going in.

Lehotay is the newcomer to the championships this year and joins Berger in the 1,500 meter run. She has the 10th-best time going in at 4:25.67, a mark she hit at the Gina Relays late last month. She became a two-time All-American as a freshman at the indoor championships after she finished fourth in the mile and the DMR.

On the men's side, All-American Marcus Myers will return as a competitor in the hammer throw. Myers was one of the top performers at the last chance meets and reached a mark of 64.24 meters at Baldwin Wallace last week to put him in fourth place in the nation going in. He became an All-American in the weight throw during the indoor season in March.

The four athletes are the most Walsh has send to the outdoor national championships since joining NCAA Division II. During the indoor season, the Cavs sent six athletes to the championships with all of earning All-American honors.

The championships will be held at the IMG Academy from May 25 through 27.
