NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Walsh Cavaliers women's track and field team competed in their home invitational on Friday (April 12) and Saturday (April 13).
Ten athletes and one relay team placed in the top three for the Walsh Invitational this weekend.
Malia Turley reached a NCAA D2 Provo mark in the hammer throw as she placed first with a throw of 53.91 meters.
Morrisa Mallory was second in the shot put, throwing a 13.60 meter throw as her best.
In the triple jump, Christine Fiegl finished third, jumping 10.44 meters overall.
Walsh went 1-2 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase as Alexa Leppelmeier won the event with a time of 11:09.32, the second fastest in school history. Macy Lynch overcame an early miscue to finish second, finishing with a time of 11:50.85.
Bre Bakan was the runnerup in the 1500 meter run as she ran a time of 4:39.86.
Smith won the 400 meter run with a winning time of 57.36 seconds.
Andra Lehotay surpassed a NCAA D2 Provo time in the 800 meter run, winning the event with a 2:10.80 time.
Karissa Sonneberger ran a personal record in the 5000 meter run with a 17:57.74 as she finished third.
The team will split up next week, competing in California, Ohio and Georgia in preparation for the G-MAC Championships.
