NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Walsh University women's track and field prepped for the 2019 Great Midwest Outdoor Championships next week as they competed at the Gina Relays at Hillsdale and the Ohio Open at Ohio University over the weekend.
At the Hillsdale Gina Relays, Alexa Leppelmeier set a NCAA D2 Provo time (10:58.73) with a third place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Alexa Lehotay was eighth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:17.61. Bre Bakan was 15th in the 1500 meter run, running a 4:38.83.
In Athens, the Cavaliers had 11 top three finishes as they finished 15th of 29 teams. Jetaiya Smith was third overall in the 200 meter dash, crossing the finish line in 25.56 seconds. Alexandra Rodgers had the second fastest time in the 100 meter hurdles, finishing with a 15.05 time in the finals. The 4x100 meter relay team of Rachael Kotoch, Emily Joyce, Smith and Juanita Gray was second with a time of 48.40. Walsh had representatives in the top three for four of the field events. Malia Turley (55.20 meters) and Payton Breehl (47.03) finished 1-2 in the hammer throw. Rodgers added a first place in the long jump to her resume on Saturday, jumping 5.18 meters. In the triple jump, Walsh swept the top three spots. Catherine Feigl (10.40), Morgan Fisher (9.98) and Emily Drago (9.48 meters) went one, two, three. Ndidiamaka Anaraodo (13.33 meters) and Morrisa Mallory (13.21 meters) captured the second and third place spots in the shot put.
The Cavaliers will compete at the G-MAC Championships, starting on Thursday (May 2), held at Hillsdale College.
