YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Walsh Cavaliers men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened the 2019-20 season on Friday (Dec. 6) at the Youngstown State Icebreaker, held at the Watson and Tressel Training Site.
In her first indoor race, freshman Bridget Hahn won the 5000 meter race with a final time of 17:44.79, finishing over four seconds ahead of second place.
Bre Bakan ran a personal best in the Mile as she trimmed nearly a second off her previous PR. She finished second with a 5:07.89.
Megan Soehnlen finished sixth in the 800 meter run, with a time of 2:24.46.
The shot put saw two Walsh throwers finish in the first five slots. Morrisa Mallory had a best throw of 13.06 meters, slotting third. Samantha Watkins finished fifth in her first competition, throwing a top throw of 12.87 meters.
Mariah Porter ended up seventh in the weight throw, topping out at 15.29 meters. Mallory was tenth overall with a 14.55 meter throw.
The Cavaliers will resume competition at Mount Union on Saturday (Dec. 7) at the Toy Drive Invite.
