(NORTH CANTON, Ohio)- This weekend the Cavs head into a match with their eye on more than just adding another W to their record. Friday evening your Walsh Cavaliers are dedicating their match against Lake Erie College to Lauren Thomas, a sophomore outside hitter for Beaver Local High School. This past summer, Lauren suffered a stroke while competing in a volleyball camp with her high school team. She was taken to St. Elizabeth's hospital where she had a CT scan which confirmed that she had suffered a severe left-side stroke. She was treated quickly and taken into emergency surgery to remove the clot from her brain. She was then transferred via helicopter to Akron children's hospital and admitted into the PICU. At the beginning of Lauren's journey, doctors notified her family that she would no longer be able to speak, walk, or even understand anything. Since then, Lauren has been beating the odds. She has been discharged from the hospital, walking with very little assistance, talking and has also begun to gain some movement in her right arm.
This Friday, October 26 at 7 pm we invite everyone to come out and not just support your cavalier volleyball team, but celebrate the magnificent strides Lauren has, and continues to make too.
