EVANSVILLE, Indiana - For the third straight year, the Walsh Cavaliers women's cross country team has qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships. After finishing third in Evansville, Indiana on Saturday (Nov. 9), the tenth ranked Cavaliers punched their ticket to Nationals.
"I could not have been more proud of how our teams performed today," said Walsh head coach Rob Mizicko. "We came into the meet excited, focused, and ready to race. Both our women and men have worked extremely hard for opportunities like today. To race your best when it counts the most is a credit to our young women and men that put on the Walsh Uniform!"
Two of Walsh's finishers were named All-Regional while they finished in the Top 25. Claire Robertson was the top Walsh finisher in 23th place, running the 6K course in 21:42.3 and teammate Andra Lehotay was three seconds behind in 25th place.
Alexa Leppelmeier was two seconds behind Lehotay as she was 27th place with a time of 21:47.4. The G-MAC Freshman of the Year, Bridget Hahn was 31st in the finishing order with a 21:50.4. Bre Bakan was fifth for the Cavaliers and 49th overall in the 6K, finishing in 22:19.7. Alyssa Viscounte (22:33.9) was 59th and Karissa Sonneberger (23:18.4) finished 104th for the Cavaliers.
The NCAA D2 National Championships will take place in Sacramento, California on Saturday, November 23rd.
