Austin Szink enters his second season on the Cavaliers coaching staff after completing a successful playing career with the Cavaliers. Szink started each game over his last three seasons either at catcher or designated hitter.
Szink is scattered throughout the Walsh record books in numerous categories including homeruns (24), doubles (35), RBI’s (109), and runs scored (115). In 2015, he was named to the GLIAC Honorable Mention team.
In 2017, Szink had one of the best seasons for the Cavaliers in recent memory after being named All-American Honorable Mention, the Cavaliers' first since joining the NCAA. Szink earned accolades by both the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and D2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA), and it's the first time anyone on the Walsh baseball team has earned All-American honors since after the 2000 season. He had a perfect fielding percentage and was second in the conference with 12 runners caught stealing. He was also an All-GLIAC, NBCWA All-Midwest, D2CCA All-Midwest, and ABCA All-Midwest First Team selection.
Szink was named a 2017 GLIAC Commissioners Award winner, the first ever for a Walsh University male student-athlete. The award recognized student-athletes that excel both in the classroom and on the fields of play.
He has also played for a number of summer organizations that include the Stark County Terriers, Chillicothe Paints, and Lorain County Ironmen.
Szink graduated in 2016 from Walsh University with his Bachelor’s Degree in Adolescent Young Adult Mathematics Education. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree in educational leadership. He resides in North Canton, Ohio.
