Truax Scores Golden Goal to Defeat Houghton

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) - With his seventh goal of the year, Ben Truax (Sr., 6-1, Mansfield, OH/St. Peters) propelled Walsh to a 1-0 overtime victory over visiting Houghton Wednesday evening. The Cavaliers improve to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the AMC with their fourth-straight win. The Highlanders fall to 1-5-2.

The golden goal came in the 92nd minute shortly after the overtime started. Ben Latimer (Sr., 5-11, Sunbury, OH/Big Walnut) made the assist after taking a loose ball in the Houghton end and pushing it up to Truax in the box. Truax had a one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper and slid it in to the right side of the net. It made up for a saved penalty kick Truax attempted in the first half after a Houghton player was red carded for a hand ball preventing a goal. Mike Kelley (Jr., 6-0, Chagrin Falls, OH/NDCL) recorded another shutout with two saves and improved his record to 4-1.

Overall the Cavs pressured Houghton for most of the night with a man-advantage and outshot the Highlanders 23-8 in the game. Walsh also had the advantage on corner kicks with 14 to Houghton's two.

Walsh will welcome Fisher on Friday as the two schools play in an AMC men and women's doubleheader. The men are scheduled to kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
