Gearhart's Goal Lifts Cavs Past Lake Erie

Box Score

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) - Another early goal provided the difference for Walsh as the Cavaliers scored a 1-0 victory over Lake Erie on a cool Sunday afternoon. The Cavs improve to 5-1-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the GLIAC and are now 9-0 all-time against the Storm (1-6-1, 0-3-1).

The goal came in the 14thminute when Jessie Gearhart (Fr., 5-9, Wadsworth, OH/HS) scored on an assist from Kristin Conti (Fr., 5-8, Hartville, OH/Lake). Conti was on the left side of the box and found Gearhart on the opposite side running towards the net. Gearhart was able to get a touch on the ball and slip it back to the left side, past the goalie and into the net. It was the highlight of a strong offensive effort for the Cavaliers in the first half. Gearhart's goal was her team-high fourth of the year and second game-winning goal.

From there, the defense did its job once again as freshmen goalkeepers Taylor Stano (5-7, Massillon, OH/Jackson) and Michaella Stucky (5-5, Medina, OH/HS) combined for the fifth shutout of the year. Stano made one save in the opening half, while Stucky made a pair of saves. Overall, Lake Erie took twice as many shots in the second half than the first. The Cavs outshot the Storm 15-12 in the game.

Walsh continues its four-game home-stand with a match against Ferris State this Friday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
