Cavs Win First GLIAC Game, Blank Malone 3-0

Box Score

(CANTON, Ohio) - Walsh (4-8-2, 1-7) won for the first time in 10 games and posted their first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win with a 3-0 shutout at Malone University (4-8-1, 1-7) in the rain today. The win was the first for the Cavs since they beat Malone in a non-conference game, 1-0, at Walsh on September 7.

Walsh pressured Malone into a mistake in the box, which resulted in the first goal of the game coming off a Pioneer at 18:22. The Cavs would take a 1-0 lead in the locker room.

Walsh would strike just 34 seconds into the second half when Emily Durina (So., Youngstown, OH/Austintown Fitch) scored her second goal of the season on a cross from Kristen Conti (So., Hartville, OH/Lake) to put the Cavs up 2-0.

The Cavs added a third goal when Rachel Rucker (Sr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) scored her first goal of the season on an assist from Liz Broome (Sr., Doylestown, Oh/Chippewa) with 39 seconds to play.
Walsh outshot Malone 17-12.

Michaella Stucky (So., Medina, OH/HS) had two saves and blanked the Pioneers in the first half and, Dani Shambaugh (Fr., Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) turned back five shots in the second half.

Walsh plays at Tiffin University next Friday and at the University of Findlay on Sunday.
