Cavs Can't Overcome Early Deficit

(CANTON, Ohio) - On the strength of three first half goals, Malone (3-9-1, 2-8-1) went on to defeat the Cavs 4-2 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference game today. The loss drops the Cavs to 5-8 overall and to 5-6 in the GLIAC.

Malone scored 4:42 into the contest when Sam Tonelli scored his first goal of the season on a cross, on assists from Felipe Delgado and Josh Abend. Rubem Miranda scored on a header from Abend, off a corner kick, to give Malone a 2-0 lead at the 38:14 mark. The final first half tally came when Stephen Wannah scored from 25 yards out off the crossbar at 40:38.

Pat Julian (Sr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) got the Cavs on the board on at 60:38, scoring on a rebound to trim the Pioneer lead to 3-1. It is Julian's third goal of the season. Chad Dickerhoof (Sr., Alliance, OH/Marlington) was credited with the assist.

Malone, however, would answer a little more than two minutes later when Kelvin Aquino scored on a penalty kick to again give Malone a three-goal lead at 4-1.

Walsh would close to within two goals at 4-2 when Dickerhoof scored his second goal of the season on a free kick at 66:55.
